My Favorite Products of 2021 To Promote A Positive Mental Space
Hope you're staying safe and well...I know it probably feels like I've been saying that a lot the last year, but I feel it's important to provide emphasis and focus on Mental Health, because of the climate of our world during a global pandemic.. Anxiety isn't new to me, but it may be new to some of you, and when I was struggling with my mental health after my life fell apart in Las Vegas, I felt I didn't have many resources readily available to me to focus on my mental health or help support my journey to understanding, healing and beginning to overcome some of my experiences.
I wanted to take some time to highlight and share some of my favorite products both sponsored and unsponsored to help you create a positive environment to promote a healthy mental headspace.
Weighted Blankets from Baloo (Sponsored)
"The Baloo weighted blanket molds to your body like a gentle hug. Our blankets don’t trap heat and are cool enough to use year-round in all climates. Machine washable and dryer safe, They are sized for adults and to fit the top of a full/queen or king size bed, with minimal or no overhang, and are available in 15lb, 20lb and 25lb weights."
I have been sleeping with this blanket for two weeks now, and I absolutely love how it feels and the weight was perfect. I was worried I wouldn't feel comfortable sleeping under a heavy blanket given that I sleep with a fan on, and like to be a specific temperature at night, but I feel the materials are great for keeping cool, while also promoting better sleep. I actually had a anxiety attack the other day, and after I took a shower to try to reset & calm down, I laid under my blanket and felt much more level headed and at peace within 30 minutes of rest. This information taken from the Baloo site about how weighted blankets works - " The gentle pressure of the blanket mimics the sensation of deep touch pressure (DTP; also commonly written as deep pressure touch). DTP is shown to have therapeutic effects on the body, specifically our parasympathetic and sympathetic systems, both of which form part of the nervous system. " I'm not sure that they're the magic anti-anxiety tool you may be seeking if you don't enjoy being wrapped up and truthfully it just doesn't exist but they definitely help promote better sleep, and calm your system so you can have a more restful night and slow your mind from negative thought cycles which usually trigger anxiety.
Product #2 Aroma Diffuser (With Mist)
I am OBSSESED with my Aromatic diffusers because not only do they create a nice ambiance at home, but I think they're great for fragrance. I have two in my home
now, but I do recommend doing your research and finding the type that's right for you and your space.. You can actually find some great deals on Amazon that include essential oils in your first setup. My favorite scents are: Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Citrus, and Rosemary. I will actually put a small amount of peppermint or eucalyptus on my pillow at night as well because I enjoy the smell to fall asleep too. I do prefer the larger model Amazon has with the timer so I can fall asleep with this one, without the water running out, but the Walmart solutions are great for smaller rooms. Diffusers are great for creating an relaxing environment to promote positive mental health.
Product #3 A Guided Journal
I have always loved to write but I am not very good at coming up with journal prompts and releasing my thoughts onto paper unprompted. I really loved this journal when I got into therapy last year because it allowed me to reflect on some of the things I needed to focus on to be more at peace without having to give it much thought for a focal point. The journal breaks out a variety of themes on letting going of negativity, and learning to "Let that Shit GO" and it's a steal on Amazon for $8.99! It's filled with prompts that encourage you to write out what you need to accomplish, goal setting, and prompts that encourage you to write out some of your negative thoughts and replace them with positive reinforcement. Hellloooo free therapy?! Just kidding, this should not serve as a replacement for professional services, but it's a great resource to assist in self help homework. 10/10 would recommend if you're not sure where to start with journaling!
At the end of the day, the best possible way to promote a positive mental space is going
to be to heal the things that you're struggling with if you are carrying more then you can carry mentally. I wish I had known services like this existed when I really hit my lows in Las Vegas, and the aftermath of relocating and living with my parents while being unemployed for the holidays. I could NOT afford therapy without insurance, and I did not know where to begin to look for help. I suffered in Silence for months until I was able to access therapy resources through my employer, but I realize affordable therapy and access is a privilege now, but it absolutely should be a right. We have been in a global pandemic for a year now, people are struggling. People who have never felt anxiety before experiencing it now, and not knowing where to go, so I'm thrilled to share that I have partnered with Better Help to promote a better, happier, lifestyle and offer you 10% off your first month of services with my code ABY (linked here). Better Help is not a crisis hotline, it's a resource to speak to a licensed professional about stress, anxiety, etc. The cost of counseling through BetterHelp ranges from $60 to $90 per week (billed every 4 weeks) and it is based on your location, preferences, and therapist availability. Music is 100% essential and consistently playing in my household on a daily basis. I linked a free YouTube playlist here but I cannot recommend this enough if you enjoy sleeping with sound or music, you can also check out Spotify if you have premium (my favorite list is 'Relaxing Sleep Playlist" I fully believe your atmosphere is a product of your mental health, and that it's extremely important to provide an positive atmosphere to promote mental health. Every night before bed you can hear me saying "Ok google, play relaxing sleep music" on Spotify, and shortly after I'm snoozing to relaxing piano sounds.
